Nolwenn Blouin – tryptyk

It all started around a beer during a session. Many more followed after (both beers and sessions!)
The tremendous energy he gives off on the bodhran together with his kindness meant that meetings followed one another and there I discover a man passionate about music, about drums of course, but also about flutes from all over the world.
And there I was embarking for the improbable journey of “Parallel Horizons” (the album) which became Hopi Hopkins Horizon (the band), not forgetting the real traditional music and the magical duo between flute and drum performing so many popular tunes.
Then, through a happy combination of circumstances, we became “lecturers” in a fascinating subject, never exhausted and always renewed: the flutes of the world.

The Breton flute player Jean-Luc Thomas and the Irish percussionist David ‘Hopi’ Hopkins have since many years traveled together throughout Poland, Switzerland, Italy, England …
Jean-Luc participated in the recording of Hopi’s 2004 album « Parallel Horizons » and played in his quartet Horizon, together with bassist Yann Honoré and pianist Philippe Turbin.
The two draw their influences from the traditional musics of their respective native countries but are equally inspired by other musical traditions. The duo presents a varied and eclectic repertoire where reel follows ridée and bansuri & udu give way to timber flute & bodhran.

David ‘Hopi’ Hopkins – percussion

Irish musician living in Brittany since 1992, Hopi has been playing in many Breton bands : Barzaz, Bleizi Ruz, Guichen Quartet, Loar Gann, Toud Sames, etc. aswell as with rock guitarist Pat O’May and composer pianist Didier Squiban.
Following the 2004 release of his CD « Parallel Horizons » Hopi created his own quartet “Horizon” together with flutist Jean-Luc Thomas, bassist Yann Honoré and pianist Philippe Turbin.

Today he plays in the recently reformed Barzaz, the Brian McCombe Band, Buzz Buddies and the duo Thomas / Hopkins.
Following the 2004 release of his CD « Parallel Horizons » Hopi created his own quartet “Horizon” together with flutist Jean-Luc Thomas, bassist Yann Honoré and pianist Philippe Turbin.
Before settling in Brittany, Hopi lived in Zürich in Switzerland where he met numerous jazz, Turkish and Arab musicians… These encounters nurtured his passion for world music and instruments. His collection of traditional instruments now totals over 500.
